Mysore City

Mysore is a city of approximately 0.8 million people in Karnataka State in South West India. The close proximity of Mysore to the state capital Bangalore means it is an easy place to get to.

Prior to Independence Mysore was the capital of Mysore State ruled by the Wadiyar Maharajas. Because of its former royal status and inhabitants, Mysore displays a rich archictectural heritage and is an interesting and pleasent place to spend your time.
 

Mysore and Yoga

Mysore has a long association with the history and revival of yoga in India and the Western world. In Mysore, T. Krishmacharya established a yoga shala at the royal palace in the first half of the last century. His influence has spread across the globe through the teachings of his students: BKS Iyengar, K Pattabhi Jois, BNS Iyengar and TKV Desikachar.
 

Lakshmipuram

Lakshimpuram (also spelled Luxmipuram) is a quiet residential area to the South West of Mysore City centre. It is a relatively affluent suburb. Western yoga students have been coming to Laxmipuram for over thirty years and consequently there is a lot of short and long term accomodation in the form of appartments and private rooms on offer to rent. Getting To Mysore

Mysore is about 3 hours ( 130 km ) by road with buses hourly or rail there being four trains per day from Bangalore where the nearest international airport is located. Ajay can assist with booking taxis to and from Bangalore as required.
 

What to Bring

Yourself and sufficent money, as in Mysore you can buy all things that you will need for the duration of your stay. Items such as toiletries, clothes, basic medicines, vitamins, contact lense solution, and Western food stuffs (pasta, peanut butter etc.). are all available.
