Biography of a yoga teacher |
 |
Ajay started practicing yoga at ten years old with BNS Iyengar at the Shri Pathanjala Yoga Shala at Parkala Mutt in Mysore; he soon discovered he had a passion for yoga. Practicing at the ParkalaMutt, Ajay developed a commitment and understanding for both the physical and spiritual dimensions of yoga, which have now become an integral part of his life.
Today Ajay maintains an individual practice, drawing from his personal experience in practicing asana he applies the lessons that he has leant to his teachings, offering a unique insight to Ashtanga. Alongside this Ajay is currently studying a PHD in Sanskrit at the University of Mysore.
Ajay has been teaching Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga for the passed six years. Under his supervision, students gain the strength, stamina and flexibility to move through the asanas. He has the ability to work with a wide range of individuals, from complete beginners to the advanced practitioners. Ajay’s first priority is to guide the student through the physical aspects of yoga asana. From there the foundation is set for the other limbs of Ashtanga Yoga to build.
Ajay teaches his students with sensitivity to their body and his adjustments are gentle and precise. Ajay is particularly concerned with alignment and correct posture and guides his student to this end. His aim is that his students reach there full potential.
Ajay firmly believes that with a daily Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga practice both the physical and spiritual beliefs will be attained.
Through his style of teaching Ajay built up a regular number of international students who return to Mysore every year to study and deepen their practice under his guidance.
“There is a lot to feel from yoga and Asana is only the beginning feeling” (Ajay). |

I thoroughly enjoyed my time studying primary series with Ajay. He pays close attention to safety and stresses the importance of proper alignment. His physical adjustments enabled me to understand how to achieve the pose on my own, not just forcing me into the position. He is a great communicator and is able to adapt his teachings to each individual student. I found Sthalam8 to be a very relaxed and positive environment.

"Ajay is an incredibly compassionate and knowledgeable teacher. His understanding of the deeper dimensions of asana practice, which pertain to resolving negative karmas, enabling one to become a kinder person, is awe inspiring for such a young teacher. This guru is Mysore's secret treasure and his smile is bigger than a rainbow!" Sharon Gannon, founder of the Jivamukti Yoga Method--NYC USA
